Symptom
Attempting to reconnect to a disconnected session caused the following error message to appear:
“Login Connect Failed: Error connecting to existing session for [username]
(ID number). Access is denied. A new session will be created.”
Attempting a connection to the disconnected session from within the Citrix Management Console fails with a different error message:
“Management Console Error: Failed to connect session. User information will be refreshed. Error code: 522.”
Cause
While not confirmed or reproducible, the issue seemed related to the overall behavior with respect to the reconnection of a disconnected session within this particular environment. Only one server in the server farm was experiencing this behavior. No Citrix Management Console policies were configured. A hard restart of the server did not change the symptoms. Because the security and primary settings for a disconnected session are configured on the listener, it was decided to recreate the listener.
Resolution
Recreate the ICA listener. This returns the security settings to their defaults and repairs any possible corruption under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\Winstations
1. In the Citrix Connection Configuration, highlight the ICA listener and delete it.
2. Restart the server.
3. Add the ICA listener in the Citrix Connection Configuration by choosing Connection, then New.
4. Restart the server.
