Products: ICA Client for Java, Web Interface 2.0

ICA Java Client users may fail to connect to published applications when automatic proxy detection is enabled in Internet Explorer.

When using the ICA Java Client Version 6.30.1283 or later with NFuse Classic 1.7 and after adding ProxyType=Auto to the Template.ica file, some ICA Java Client users may be unable to connect to published applications. If the Web browser is set to automatically detect proxy settings but no proxy server is in use on the client network, the ICA Java Client returns the following error message:

“Unable to locate the specified proxy auto configuration URL [http://wpad.your-domain.com/wpad.dat]. Please check the settings and try again.”

Automatic proxy detection works by seeking out a standard URL. Network administrators who want to employ Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) configure a Web server on the local network to respond at this URL with a proxy auto-configuration script. By default, Internet Explorer is configured to seek out the WPAD server and when ProxyType=Auto appears in an ICA file, the ICA Java Client attempts to use the same proxy settings as the Web browser. If no WPAD server is found, the ICA Java Client aborts the connection attempt with the error message shown above.

The solution to this problem varies according to which version of the ICA Java Client is in use.

For the ICA Java Client Version 7.0 and later, this behavior can be changed by adding the following line to the [WFClient] section of Template.ica on the server running Web Interface:

ProxyAutoDetectFallback=On

When this parameter is present, the ICA Java Client attempts a direct connection to the MetaFrame Presentation Server whenever the WPAD server is not found.

The ProxyAutoDetectFallback parameter was introduced in Version 7 of the ICA Java Client. When using the Version 6.30 ICA Java Client, users must disable the Automatic Proxy Detection option in their Web browser to prevent the ICA Java Client from seeking out the WPAD URL.

For example, in Internet Explorer:

1. From the Tools : Internet Options menu, click the Connections tab.

2. Click LAN Settings.

3. Clear the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
