CTX102226 - Error: The credentials supplied were invalid. Please try again

This document was published at: http://support.citrix.com/kb/entry.jspa?externalID=CTX102226

Document ID: CTX102226, Created on: Jul 3, 2003, Updated: Jul 3, 2003

Products: Web Interface 2.0

Symptoms

After enabling RSA SecurID authentication in the Web Interface admin tool, logons fail despite using valid domain credentials and a valid RSA tokencode. The following error message appears:

“ERROR: The credentials supplied were invalid. Please try again.”

The RSA ACE server may also report “Node verification failure.” If the node secret is reset by clearing the “Sent node secret” checkbox at the RSA server, a single Web Interface logon succeeds but all subsequent logon attempts fail. This pattern can be repeated: each time the node secret is reset, Web Interface allows one and only one successful logon.

Cause

The RSA ACE client was installed after the Web Interface. The Web Interface installer makes registry permission changes to the RSA ACE client key so that the Web Interface can read and write the node secret to the registry. If the RSA client is not yet installed, the Web Interface installer cannot apply the required registry permissions.

Page 65 of the Web Interface Administrator’s Guide specifies that for RSA authentication to succeed, you need to install the Web Interface after you install the RSA ACE client:

Resolution

WARNING! This steps below require you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

You can resolve this issue by removing and reinstalling the Web Interface or by following these steps to configure the registry permissions manually:

1. Run Regedt32.exe and select the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESDTIACECLIENT

2. Edit the permissions of this key to grant the IWAM_MachineName account Full Control.

3. On the RSA ACE server, edit the node properties for your Web Interface server and clear the Sent node secret checkbox.

4. On the Web Interface server, run IISRESET.
