The increased popularity of PDA devices has created an increased interest in the ability of synchronizing over ICA connections. To accomplish this on your Palm Device using RAS, you must perform some tasks on the MetaFrame server and in Program Neighborhood on your client computer. Please note that the Palm Device will synchronize with the MetaFrame server only if Hotsync manager is not running on the client device.
Server side:
Download and install the "Palm DeskTop" version 4.0.1 on your MetaFrame server using Add/Remove Programs
or
Type change user /install at a command prompt.
Client side:
1. Connect your Palm Device to an available COM port.
2. Verify that you are using a "6" series Program Neighborhood client by opening your existing version of Program Neighborhood and navigating to Help > About. If you have a version beginning with 4, download the latest Program Neighborhood client.
3. In Program Neighborhood, double-click the Add ICA Connection icon. Choose Dial-UP Networking (PPP/RAS). This choice opens a dialog box allowing you to configure a new dial-up connection (use Dial-up to a private network) or use one you already configured. Complete the Custom ICA Connection to your MetaFrame server, which now has the Palm DeskTop software installed.
4. In Program Neighborhood, navigate to Tools > Serial Devices. Select Add and add the serial device (Direct Connect), port type (Standard COM Port), and choose the correct COM port. Click OK and click the Properties button. Change the default communication speed to 115200.
5. Start the ICA Dial Up connection you created in Step 2.
6. When you are connected to the MetaFrame server desktop, enter a command prompt from the session's Task Bar (not your local Task Bar) by pressing the Ctrl+F1 hotkey combination. Map the COM port on your client to the COM port on your server by typing:
net use comx: clientcomz:
where x is the number of the COM port you are mapping to on the server and z is the number of the COM port to which your palm pilot is connected on your client device.
7. Press the HotSync button on the Palm Device cradle to synchronize with the ICA connection's Palm DeskTop software.
