This note describes the proper process for installing MetaFrame XP 1.0 on a Compaq DL 360 Server
< p>Overview

This application note describes how to install either Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Windows Terminal Server Edition and Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 on a Compaq Proliant DL360 server.

Hardware Used

• Compaq Proliant DL3602X

• 18.2GB Ultra3 SCSI 10x1024MB

• Two Pentium III 800/133MHz with 256K cache

• Compaq Smart Array Controller (Version 1.42) ROM Firmware updated to 1/09/01

• RAID 1 fault tolerance (mirrored 18.2GB)

• ATI RAGE IIC Video Controller

• Compaq NC 3163 NIC 1 and NIC 2 (Fast Ethernet)

Software Requirements

• Compaq Smart Start 4.90 or the latest drivers from Compaq

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

• Microsoft Windows Terminal Server Edition

• MetaFrame XP Version 1.0 for Windows 2000

Hardware Setup

See the Compaq Proliant DL 360 Installation Guide to complete the installation. The guide is available for download from http://www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/installation_guides/169545-002.html

NOTE: To ensure that RAID 1 is used, make sure that both SCSI drives are properly seated in the unit before continuing.

1. Update the Firmware BIOS, dated no earlier than 01/09/2001.

2. Boot with Smart Start CD.

3. If any errors appear during boot, ignore them because everything on the system will be erased.

A. This will happen only on systems that were configured previously and will be erased and reconfigured for MetaFrame XP use.

B. If this is a new system, the following error message appears: "No logical disks configured." Press F1 and continue with Smart Start Setup.

4. After booting from the SSCD (Smart Start CD), select Run System Erase Utility. This wipes system clean (out-of-box state system).

5. System erase will ask to confirm; select Yes.

6. The system erase success DOS screen appears.

7. Turn system power off.

8. Leave the CD in the CD drive.

9. Power the system on.

10. Be prepared to press F10 for the short menu as SSCD GUI appears.

11. Select Option 1 for English; press Enter.

12. Select Option 2 to configure the system and create a system partition; press Enter.

13. Select the primary operating system Windows NT.

A. Select the version being used either Windows NT 4.0 (used for Terminal Server Edition) or Windows 2000.

B. Select Review or Modify Hardware Settings. (This is done to configure the RIB boards.)

14. Select View or Edit Details.

15. Scroll to Slot 1 - Compaq remote insight lights-out edition (1/4 of the way down scroll).

16. Highlight the server name; press Enter to change name.

A. Enter the server name for access to the RIB board.

B. Press Enter.

17. Scroll down to DNS Name. Press Enter to modify the name.

A. Set name as Servername_RIB. Press Enter or refer to the Compaq tag Default User Settings if attached to the system hardware.

Warning! The servername cannot exceed 15 characters.

B. If the servername is too long, make the name _R only.

18. Press F10 for Done.

19. Select Save and Exit.

20. The Save and Exit dialog box appears. Select Save the Configuration and restart the computer.

21. Verifyreset RIB board. Select Yes.

A. If you configured the system from RIB and you choose Yes, you will lose your connection at this point.

B. At Connection Lost, reconnect with a new DNS name to reestablish connection. This may take a few minutes until DNS is updated.

22. To complete the system configuration, press Enter.

23. Leave the SSCD in the system.

24. The unconfigured controller wizard starts. At the Welcome screen, select View or Next to continue.

25. Select RAID 1 Drive Mirroring and then press Next.

26. In Configuration Preview, press Next.

27. When you are done, press Save Configuration Now.

28. When the configuration is saved, you will be at the Compaq Array Config Utility.

29. From the Controller menu, press Exit.

30. The system reboots.

31. Leave the SSCD in the system.

32. The System Partition Installation Utility autostarts, creates the partitions, and copies the files to the system Compaq partition. The system automatically reboots once completed.

33. Leave the SSCD in the system.

34. At the System Utilities dialog box, you can choose a new option:

A Press Exit and remove the SSCD.

B. Power off the system.

You can now install the operating system.

Installing Windows 2000

NOTE: You now have an EISA configuration partition of about 36MB used by Compaq Utilities. Do not erase this partition during the installation of Windows 2000.

1. Insert the Windows 2000 Server CD into the CD drive and power on the system.

2. When prompted, press any key to boot from the Windows 2000 CD.

3. See the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Installation Guide to complete the installation. The Installation Guide is available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/

4. When installation is complete, ensure that the latest Microsoft Service Pack is installed.

Windows Terminal Server Edition Installation

NOTE: You now have an EISA configuration partition of about 36MB used by Compaq Utilities. Do not erase this partition during the installation of Terminal Server Edition.

1. You need to create boot floppy diskettes from the Windows Terminal Server Edition CD. Power the system on and boot from the floppies to begin the install.

2. When prompted for a driver diskette, insert the latest driver diskette from Compaq and press Enter. Press S to specify the additional drivers option. Select Compaq Integrated Smart Array. After this is installed, you need to specify the ATAPI IDE CD-ROM drivers from the list provided by Windows Terminal Server.

Obtain the following drivers from
Compaq: Video, NIC, and Smart Array at http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/locate/7_1123.html

3. See the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition Installation Guide to complete the installation. The guide is available at http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/terminalserver/

4. When installation is complete, ensure that the latest Microsoft Service Pack is installed.

Installing MetaFrame XP 1.0

1. Insert the MetaFrame XP Version 1.0 for Windows CD-ROM and choose MetaFrame Setup from the list of on-screen options.

2. See the MetaFrame XP Installation Guide to complete installation and set up.
