Products: Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition, Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 for Microsoft NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition

This document explains certain scenarios why a user may see and print to other user's printers.

1. This issue typically occurs because the user in question belongs to a group membership that includes the domain or local administrators or power users group. Check the security rights on the printer objects when this is happening.

This issue should not manifest itself when running Service Pack 6 for Terminal Server 4.0 or Windows 2000 and either MetaFrame 1.8 Service Pack 3 or MetaFrame XP on either platform. See MicroSoft TechNet Article Q253922 for additional information.

2. When viewing printers in Excel 97/2000/2002, users can see all other users’ autocreated client printers. The printer enumeration mechanism used by Excel causes the issue. See Q313683 and Q297883 for additional information. Other applications that use this sort of printer enumeration mechanism may experience the same scenario. Please review the workings of the API calls AddPrinters(), EnumPrinters(), OpenPrinter(), and GetProfileStrings() when determining how the application enumerates its printers.

Issues of this nature are reproducible within an RDP session. Open Notepad and the application in question. Enumerate the printers and note the results.

3. Ensure each session has a unique user name and client name. This can be determined from Citrix Server Administration, mfadmin.exe, on MetaFrame 1.8 or the Citrix Management Console on MetaFrame XP.

4. From the 6.20.986 Win32 ICA Client readme:

The autocreated printer option failed when using a pass-through client because the pass-through client routed all users to the same network printer. To enable the pass-through client to use the original client name, add the following registry setting to the computer on which the pass-through client is running.

WARNING! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

A. Run regedt32.

B. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\PASS THROUGH.

C. From the Edit pull-down menu, select Add Value and type PASS THROUGH. Select REG_DWORD in the Data Type field.

D. In the DWORD Editor window, type 1 in the Data field to use the original client name for the autocreated printer.

5. See item # 1. "Occasionally, if users attempted to log on immediately after logging off, they could not print to the default autocreated printer because another users printer was set as the default printer." from hotfix XE102W029.
