Products: Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000
Issues involving logon behavior can be attributed to improper winlogon registry entries.
Background
The primary operating system Gina is specified in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GinaDll:
By default, initial installations of Microsoft operating systems do not show this value and Msgina.dll is considered the default Gina. Third-party vendors such as Citrix (Ctxgina.dll), Novell (Nwgina.dll), or PCAnywhere (AWgina.dll) modify the winlogon key and add the GinaDll value. When MetaFrame XP is installed, if the GinaDll value is not Msgina.dll, Citrix adds a new value in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ctxginadll:
The new Ctxginadll value allows Gina calls, not answered by the CTXGINA.dll, to be routed to the third-party Gina. When a third-party product, that has its own Gina, is installed after Citrix MetaFrame XP is installed, it may be necessary to modify the GinaDll and Ctxgina.dll values to ensure proper system functionality.
NOTE: If Ctxgina.dll is not the primary GinaDll, the following Citrix-specific functionality is unavailable:
1. Users cannot log on with UPN user names; for example, john.doe@Citrix.com.
2. Users cannot log on with a password that is longer than 15 characters.
3. Citrix Auto Client Reconnect fails.
4. Clients configured with "User Specified Credentials" fail.
