This document explains how to change the client name in a UNIX ICA Client.
Is the client name configurable in UNIX clients or must it assume the host name?
The client name can be configured (though not through the user interface). A ClientName= entry can be placed in either the [WFClient] section of wfclient.ini, in the relevant description section of appsrv.ini, or in both. An appsrv.ini entry takes precedence over any wfclient.ini entry. If no name is specified, the default name is the host name (see details below).
When you install the UNIX client in server mode and multiple users connect to run the client, do they all have the same client name, and what are the possible issues with printing?
The 3.0 UNIX client always installs in server mode. That means that the configuration files are in user-specific locations (the UNIX users $HOME/ICAClient directory). If a 3.0 UNIX client runs on one machine (for example, the UNIX server) and displays on another (either a UNIX workstation or an X-terminal ), the default client name is the IP address of the machine on which the client displays. This allows the various client devices to be distinguished and follows the same convention used by UNIX Integration Services. This IP address is also used for the printer name. Printing is performed by the UNIX servers printers so different display-based (client) names can be used to describe the same printer queue on the UNIX server. Because printing goes through a spooler at the UNIX end, this ambiguity should not cause problems.
