Products: Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 for Microsoft NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition, Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition

Files cannot be copied from NetWare server through MetaFrame 1.8 on TSE 4.0 to an ICA Client drive.

Issue

The following error message appears with the configuration below:

"Cannot copy file. The system cannot find the file."

• MetaFrame 1.8 server with Service Pack 3 on Terminal Server Edition 4.0

• With or without any hotfixes installed

• Novell Client for Windows NT Version 4.83 or 4.83 Service Pack 1

• Copy a file from a Novell 5.x NDS Server with McAfee Netshield VirusScan Netshld.nlm Version 4.1.60

• Connect through an ICA session to an ICA Client

Any version of MetaFrame on Windows 2000 does not exhibit this behavior.

Reproduction Steps

This issue was verified to happen with .xls files, and may happen with other file extensions. The file that is being copied has extended attributes added by the anti-virus software. Several utilities are available from third-party vendors, like FileMon.exe from www.Sysinternals.com and GETEA.exe from Novell, that allow you to view files with extended attributes.

1. Install a Windows NT server on the network that has a FAT32 partition.

2. From a Windows NT 4.0 server, execute the net use command to the network servers FAT32 partition.

3. From a Windows 2000 server, execute net use to the network servers FAT32 partition.

4. On the Windows NT 4.0 server, copy the file from a Novell server to the network servers FAT32 partition. The following message appears at a command line:

"The system cannot find message for message number 0x13din message file for System. 0 file(s) copied."

5. On the Windows 2000 server, copy the file from the Novell server to the network servers FAT32 partition. The file copy completes successfully.

Resolution

The Citrix CDM (Client Redirector), from all versions of MetaFrame for TSE, do not support files with extended attributes. The Microsoft FAT32, not FAT, file system, like CDM, does not support files with extended attributes. Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0 use different approaches when copying files.
