This error occurs when attempting to log off, reset, or disconnect a session within the Citrix Management Console.

Symptoms

The same action through tsadmin.exe, Terminal Server Administration, failed.

Example: Resetting a session from tsadmin.exe.
Terminal Session(ID #)reset failed.
(Error 5 -Access is denied.)

Cause

The ica-tcp listener permissions were altered on the server in question. For example: explicit “deny” permissions for the Everyone group for things like logoff and Set Information permissions, and so on.

OR

Sessions in Connected and ConnectQuery states could not be reset through the Citrix Management Console. Those sessions could be reset through tools like Terminal Service Manager. Sessions in the ConnectQuery state were shown to be using the RDP protocol when no protocol should have been visible.

Resolution

Adjust the listener permissions through mfcfg.exe, Citrix Connection Configuration, to allow the necessary action.

OR

A change was made, in hotfix XE102W065 or its equivalent, to correct this behavior. Sessions in the Connected and ConnectQuery states can now be reset through the Citrix Management Console.
