Products: Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition, Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 for Microsoft NT 4.0 Server Terminal Server Edition, Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 for Microsoft Windows 2000
This is a current feature limitation of the MetaFrame product line.
Issue
The following scenarios outline how to identify whether the Windows NT Redirector, RDR, or the Citrix Redirector, CDM, is being used.
1. Configure a Win32 workstation with the PNAgent Client Version 6.30 or later and publish Excel to use Content Redirection on a MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 server.
2. Map a network connection to a Windows NT file server and double-click an .xls file. This invokes the PNAgent to launch Excel from the MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 server and Content Redirection refers the .xls file through to the Excel application. In this scenario, the Citrix Redirector, CDM, is used. When a second user follows the same steps and opens the same .xls file from another workstation, the dialog box that Excel displays to notify the user that the file is in use is not displayed.
Example: "File in use is locked for editing by username. Open "Read-Only" or click "Notify" to open read-only and receive notification when the document is no longer in use."
3. If the same two users close the ICA sessions, log on to a desktop on the same server, make a drive mapping in the ICA session to the same Windows NT file server, and launch the same Excel file from the Windows NT file server, file locking is imposed and the second user will get the Excel File in Use dialog box. In this scenario, the Windows NT Redirector, RDR, is used.
4. This also occurs on all MetaFrame platforms and with other files such a .doc and .mdb when either:
A. A MetaFrame user opens a file locally on his/her client device and then started an ICA session and tried to open the same file through the ICA session on the "client mapped fixed drive."
OR
B. Two separate MetaFrame users make a mapping inside the ICA session to the same remote network drive defined on the client device and tried to open the same file on this "client mapped remote network" drive inside the ICA session.
Resolution
There is currently no support for file locking by CDM back through the ICA Win32 Clients.
