Using extended characters for farm passwords in the ICA Win32 Client
Problem Description
When using extended characters as part of the Citrix logon password, the following error message may appear:
“The entered credential information is incorrect. Verify that your user name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. Make sure that Caps Lock is not accidentally on.”
An extended character is displayed on the screen by pressing and holding down the ALT key in combination with a number sequence representing the extended character; for example, Alt 255, Alt 176.
Resolution
This behavior is by design.
The Citrix ICA Win32 Client is ANSI-compatible, meaning that it will work on Microsoft ANSI-compatible operating systems. Because our client must still be supported on Windows 95, which is not completely UNICODE compatible, it is not possible to make it completely UNICODE. To use the extended characters, use the ANSI (extended) character set. For an English language client to an English language server, if you want to type extended characters, it is better to stay within the Alt+0160 to Alt+0255 range. Otherwise, the typed character may not have an ANSI equivalent. Because our client is ANSI, it is important that the characters used stay within the ANSI (extended) character set.
