Products: Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000

Problem Description:

On an upgrade or new install of MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2, users may not be able to right-click and select Open, or to double-click, in order to open certain files with their respective associated application from a Web folder that resides on the same server as their ICA session or from a Web Folder shared on another server.

This problem happens when trying to open the file from Internet Explorer 5.x or later. The problem is not seen when using Windows Explorer.

Resolution:

Install Hotfix XE102W065 or later equivalent and create the following registry key as documented in the Hotfix Readme item# 15.

To disable the file type associations for server FTA, you need to create the following registry key for SFTA:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\SFTA

Value Name: DisableServerFTA

Value Type: DWORD Value: 1

Reproduction Steps:

1. First create a Web Folder: - Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the following directory under IIS, on the same server as MetaFrame XP FR2 is installed, or another IIS server on the Network:

%systemroot%/inetpub/wwwroot

2. Set the Folder's Web Properties: - Using IIS Admin, navigate to the Default Web site and select the properties of the shared folder created above. - Under the Documents Tab, uncheck Enable Default Document. - Under the Directory Tab, Check off, Read, Write, Directory browsing.

3. Copy a file to the Web Folder that has an associated application(for this example, a .PDF file was used).

4. Connect to the Web Folder using Internet Explorer 5.x or later: - At the server console, from an RDP session, or from an ICA session, launch Internet Explorer. - From the File menu, select Open, then Check off, Open as Web Folder. - Type in the URL to the Web Folder and hit Enter.

5. Try to launch the file's associated application: - Right-click on the file, and the Open selection is not available. - Double-click on the file, nothing happens.
