Products: Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000
Symptoms
CRL expiration fails with FullAccessCheck on MetaFrame XP.
This seems to work on Microsoft Windows 2003, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows 2000 Servers but fails on both Microsoft XP Home and Microsoft XP Pro. The error message is:
“The Citrix SSL Relay sent a close alert (SSL Error 43).”
This error message appears when connecting to both Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Servers. When browsing, Windows 2003 responds with the above message but Windows 2000 responds with:
“A network error occurred (SSL Error 4). This may be a direct/indirect issue.” (Windows 2000 is indirect.)
Steps to Reproduce
1. Set up an SSL connection to a MetaFrame server on a Microsoft XP Server.
2. Verify that you can connect.
3. Open AppSrv.ini and change the SSLCertificateRevocationCheckPolicy to FullAccessCheck.
4. Set the date ahead about two weeks or so,
Note: This must be after the CRL expires so you might have to open the CRL properties in Microsoft Management Console to see what the expiration date is.
5. Launch the connection. You will see the error message described above.
This also happens when browsing but a second attempt at browsing completes successfully, so either it works the second time or we ignore the CRL the second time.
Cause
CRL support may add an additional time delay to the SSL handshake.
Resolution
Add the following DWORD to the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Secure\Citrix\Citrix SSL Relay/timeout = 60000
