Question / How To
For heightend security, some organizations change the port that SQL uses to communicate. The default SQL port is 1433.
What needs to be done within a MetaFrame XP environment to ensure continual SQL communication if the SQL port is changed?
Resolution
The port the SQL driver uses to communicate is in the Mf20.dsn file. There are two ways to change the file to reflect the TCP port change:
• Run ODBC and configure the Mf20.dsn file located in Program Files\Citrix\Independent Management Architecture\ by default. Select Client Configuration in the wizard and change the TCP/IP port.
— or —
• Change the Mf20.dsn file. In a text editor, manually add a field “address” followed by the SQL by the SQL server name and the port number; for example: Address=HQSQL,2433.
Additional Information
Microsoft will support this.
