This document is intended for those familiar with NFuse 1.x, who may not have worked extensively with Solaris and/or MetaFrame for UNIX.
This document does not replace the NFuse 1.5 and XML Service for UNIX 1.0
Administrator's Guides; please use this as a supplement.
Prerequisites
MetaFrame for Solaris 1.1 (will not run on 1.0/1.0.1; runs on Solaris 2.6, 7, and 8
Sparc 7 and 8 Intel)
NFuse 1.5 Web server (does not work with 1.0)
Getting Started
Perform the following steps as root.
XML Service requires the following patches for Solaris 2.6 and 7; no patches are required for Solaris 8:
2.6 Sparc - 105591-09 [http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fpatches/105591&zone_32=C++ຈpatch]
7 Intel - 106328-08 [http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fpatches/106328&zone_32=C++ຈpatch]
7 Sparc - 106327-08 [http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fpatches/106327&zone_32=C++ຈpatch]
Download the appropriate patch and place it in an empty directory on your Solaris server. If
you have problems downloading directly to the Solaris server, try downloading with Windows
and using IIS to FTP the file to your Solaris workstation, or start an ICA session from the Solaris
client to Windows (assuming you have MetaFrame) and map the appropriate UNIX directory as a
client drive.
The file you download may end in .tar.Z or .zip. These are Solaris compressed/archived files and
should not be unzipped with WinZip or any Windows utility.
Unpack a .tar.Z file as follows:
Uncompress file.tar.Z (if uncompress is not found, it is in /usr/bin)tar xvf file.tar (also in /usr/bin)
To unzip a .zip file:
Unzip file.zip (in/usr/bin)
When the patch is unpacked, install as follows:
patchadd d //
Example: patchadd d /patches/105591-09
This starts a program that walks you through the patch installation.
Installing XML Service for UNIX
As root, complete these steps:
Create a user named ctxnfuse, whose primary group is ctxadm. This is the XML Service administrative
account and is required by the install program. The simplest way to do this in Solaris is to use
Admintool. To launch, type admintool & at the command line. Setting the home directory to
/export/home/ctxnfuse is recommended.
Download the correct image for your platform from http://download.citrix.com/xmlsolaris.htm. The
download is a .tar.Z file; see the above section on patches for instructions about uncompressing and
untarring the package into an empty directory.
Once you have unpacked it, install the XML Service using the pkgadd command:
pkgadd d //CTXSxml.
Example: pkgadd d /downloads/citrix/CTXSxml.sparc
This launches an interactive script that walks you through the install. Accept the defaults and answer
yes to the install script prompts. The XML Service is installed to /opt/CTXSxml and the configuration
file is placed in /var/CTXSxml. To start the XML Service, run the ctxsrv command:
ctxsrv start nfuse (if the command is not found, it is located in /opt/CTXSmf/sbin)
This command can be run by root, but it is recommended that you run it as ctxnfuse or ctxsrvr. By
default, the XML Service listens on port 80; if another service is using port 80 (such as a Web server),
change the port assignment by using the ctxnfusesrv (in /opt/CTXSxml/sbin) command.
ctxnfusesrv port 8080
To confirm that the XML Service is running, type:
ps e | grep ctxxmld
This produces output similar to the following:
4269 ? 0:01 ctxxmld
To verify that the service is listening to the correct port, type:
netstat an | grep
which reports something like this:
*.8080 *.* 0 0 0 0 LISTEN
At this point, the XML Service is installed and running. By default, it reports the names of all
published applications for all users to the NFuse Web server. For information about configuring
NFuse 1.5, the XML Service for UNIX, and MetaFrame for UNIX 1.1, see the appropriate
Administrators Guides.
