Products: Citrix MetaFrame for Unix 1.2 - Solaris 2.6 on SPARC, Citrix MetaFrame 1.1 for UNIX - Solaris 7 on SPARC, Citrix MetaFrame 1.1 for UNIX - Solaris 8 on SPARC, Citrix MetaFrame 1.1 for UNIX - Solaris 7 for x86 CPUs, Citrix MetaFrame 1.1 for UNIX - Solaris 8 for x86 CPUs

When MetaFrame for UNIX starts the Client Drive Mapping daemon (ctxcdmd), it acts as a Network File Server (NFS) on the path 127.0.0.1/CDM_DRIVES. The operating system then mounts this server in the local /ctxmnt directory that becomes visible when you type mount or df at a command prompt. For example:

# df | grep ctxmnt
/ctxmnt (127.0.0.1:/CDM_DRIVES): 2048000 blocks 1024000 files

When an ICA Client connects, the drive mapping daemon is notified of this event by the ctxfm process and starts interacting with the ICA Client, reading and writing data in the drive mapping virtual channel. The data streams through the ctxXtw process — that is the process that owns the ICA data stream. Therefore, the UNIX server must be capable of running an NFS client to communicate with the daemon.

All traffic between the ICA Client and the UNIX server is contained within the virtual channel inside the ICA stream on port 1494. No other external TCP/IP ports are required for this functionality. Because all drive mapping traffic communicates through this port, the data is securely transmitted in a correctly configured Citrix Secure Gateway environment.

Additional Information

See the Citrix MetaFrame Server for UNIX Operating Systems Administrator’s Guide for more information about how to configure client drive mapping correctly. You can downloaded the guide from the Citrix knowledgebase, article CTX101738.
