WorkGroups is designed for replicated sites and small workgroups. The ONLY way to upgrade any of the WorkGroups servers is by purchasing the standard Enterprise product at the regular, full price. The objective is to allow the customer to retain his existing configuration and software installations. As indicated below, this will not always be possible.

Three installation scenarios exist for WorkGroups:

1. No Server Option Pack - The Server Option Pack is not part of the servers configuration.

2. Server Option Pack in a "Member" Server Configuration - The Server Option Pack was installed, but the configuration of the server is set as a Member Server and not as a PDC or BDC.

3. Server Option Pack in a PDC/BDC Configuration - The Server Option Pack was installed at the same time as the initial installation of WorkGroups and the server was configured as a PDC or a BDC.

When migrating to the Enterprise configuration, two things can happen with respect to the importance of PDC/BDC configurations:

1. The servers configuration can be left as it was in the WorkGroups installation.

In this case, License Manager must be used to remove all installed licenses from the system, including the base license. The Enterprise license and any option packs (except the Server Option Pack, which is already part of Enterprise) must then be entered.

2. A change the server configuration to a PDC/BDC or vice versa will be made.

If the change from WorkGroups to Enterprise requires participation in a domain as a domain controller, a complete reinstallation of WinFrame must occur.

Note: The above is also true if the customer is adding a Server Option Pack to an existing WorkGroups installation.
