CTX201943 - Error: Various Error Messages Attempting to Run Programs or Copy Files From WAN with WinFrame

Products: Citrix WinFrame 1.8

The primary symptom was the inability to copy files larger than about 2K from a server on the far side of a token ring WAN. The token ring segment was Type 1 IBM 16MB crosssing a 128K connection.

Attempts to run any applications from the netware server gave the error message "xxx is not a valid Windows NT application."

The event log shows the following error:

"MS Client for Netware redirector has timed out on one or more requests to "

When trying to copy a file from File Manager, you receive:

"File Manager can not copy XXXX"
"Error performing inpage operation"

Running programs from File Manager gives the error message: "! Cannot run program."

The problem is that the WAN is not able to pass the packets consistently in a complex WAN environment. The workaround to this problem is to add an entry to the Registry of the WinFrame machine turning off Packet burst mode.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
