This can be resolved by checking for the following:

1. Ensure that the file(s) LANMANNT.BMP and LANMA256.BMP are present in the %systemroot% directory.

2. Ensure the LANMANNT.BMP file is written only in 16 colors.

3. Ensure the LANMA256.BMP file is written only in 256 colors.

4. Ensure the console is using a VGA or better monitor.

5. In Control Panel, Desktop, be sure the wallpaper selected is (Default).
