Summary
The Secure Ticket Authority (STA) generates and validates tickets that authorize users to traverse a Secure Gateway or Access Gateway server en route to a Presentation Server farm.
All versions of Web Interface, MetaFrame Secure Access Manager, Secure Gateway, and Access Gateway are compatible with all versions of the Secure Ticket Authority insofar as connectivity is possible regardless of the STA version. However, some features of various Access Suite components rely on particular versions of the STA. These features include:
Session details in Secure Gateway Management console
Beginning with Secure Gateway 2.0, the Secure Gateway Management Console displays the current set of users who have active gateway sessions. The details of their connection, such as their username, protocol and the application to which they initially connected are shown in the console. This feature requires:
• Web Interface 2.0 or later
• Secure Gateway 2.0 or later
• STA 2.0 or later
Advanced Gateway Client (MetaFrame Secure Access Manager 2.2) features
MetaFrame Secure Access Manager version 2.2 introduced an Advanced Gateway Client that can be used to create secure tunnel through the gateway for email synchronization. This feature required an update to the STA in order to facilitate some Advanced Gateway Client features. This feature requires:
• MetaFrame Secure Access 2.2
• Secure Gateway 2.0
• STA 2.2
Session Reliability through the gateway
With Web Interface 4.0 and Secure Gateway 3.0 or Access Gateway 4.0 or later, the Session Reliability feature of the Presentation Server client can operate through a gateway session. This requires the version of the STA that is included with Presentation Server 4.0. This feature requires:
• Web Interface 4.0 or later – OR –
Advanced Access Control 4.0 or later
• Secure Gateway 3.0 or later – OR –
Access Gateway 4.0 or later
XML Service Integration
Before the release of Presentation Server 4.0, the STA was a separately installed component that required Microsoft IIS to host the service. With Presentation Server 4.0, the STA is no longer separately installed, but is included as part of the Citrix XML Service. IIS is no longer required.
The following table summarizes the released versions of the Secure Ticket Authority component, and which of the above features will be unavailable if an earlier STA version is used:
