Usage

The Chfarm utility is used to change the farm membership of a MetaFrame XP server.

Syntax

chfarm

Remarks

You can use chfarm when you want to move a MetaFrame XP server from its current server farm. You can move the server to an existing IMA-based server farm or create a new server farm at the same time that you move the server. The chfarm utility is available on the MetaFrame XP 1.0 CD-ROM. This utility must be run from the CD-ROM because it accesses IMA installation information. For MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 and greater chfarm can be run from the server. Don’t run chfarm executables that are not for the current MetaFrame XP installation. When you run chfarm, it stops the IMA service on the server. The data store configuration part of the MetaFrame XP Setup wizard appears.

1. On the first page, select to join an existing IMA-based server farm or create a new server farm and then click Next.

2. The wizard continues and you specify an existing data store (to join an existing server farm) or set up a new data store (if you create a new server farm).

NOTE: For information about data store setup and server farm configuration, see Data Store Configuration on page 74 of the MetaFrame XP Administrator's Guide.

3. After the farm membership is changed or a new farm is created, reboot the MetaFrame XP server.

4. When you create a new farm using chfarm, no Citrix administrator accounts are set up in the Citrix Management Console. To set up a Citrix administrator account for the new farm, you must use Citrix Management Console to log in to the server farm as a local administrator of the MetaFrame XP server.

NOTES:

1. Do not remove a server that hosts a server farms data store from the server farm. Doing so renders the farm unstable (from the MetaFrame XP Administrator's Guide).

2. Does Hotfix XE102W028 resolve any issues?

3. Hotfix XE102W028 changes are not part of Service Pack 2 for MetaFrame XP on Terminal Server 4.0

Issue:

CHFARM to Access produces an error when MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 is installed to a partition other than the root. Example: Root is C: and MetaFrame XP is installed to D:

ODBC Microsoft Access Driver Login Failed

C:\ProgramFiles\Citrix\Independent Management Architecture\MF20.mdb is not a valid path. Make sure the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

Choose OK.

Attempt to choose the current Database Location. The .mdb file can’t be found on the system.

Work Around

1. Create a subfolder under the root drive and name it Citrix.

2. Copy the folder named “Independent Management Architecture” and its entire contents from the current install location into the folder called Citrix created, from the above step, on the root drive.

3. Run CHFARM.

4. CHFARM should complete successfully.

5. If all files need returned to the non root drive, copy the current “Independent Management Architecture” folder and it contents on the root drive to the same location on the non root drive.

6. Modify the ODBC System DSN “IMADirectory” and ODBC File DSN’s for Imalhc.dsn and MF20.dsn to point back to the non root drive locations.

7. Ensure the registry locations, HKLM\Software\Citrix\Ima and HKLM\Software\Citrix\Ima\LHCDataSource are modified to reflect the non root drive letter.

8. Stop IMA service.

9. Delete the folder and all of its contents named Citrix on the root drive.

10. Restart the IMA Service.

11. Verify the Citrix Management Console opens and one can connect via ICA to the server.

12. Hotfix XE102W028 did not resolve the issue and MetaFrame XP Feature Release 3’s CHFARM does not exhibit these symptoms.
