Symptoms

Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 and Service Pack 2005.04 for Presentation Server 3.0 does not install on some Microsoft Windows operating systems that are in languages other than English, German, French, Spanish, and Japanese.

The installation fails with the following error message:

Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

The following can be seen in the MSI log created during the failed install:

Note: To generate the MSI log, MSI logging must be enabled during the install. To do this, run the install with the following command line:

Cause

During the installation of Presentation Server 4.0 or Service Pack 2005.04, a local user account is created. This user account is called Ctx_SmaUser and is required to start the Citrix SMA Service and the Citrix Print Manager Service.

This user account must be added to the local “Power Users” group. Because Citrix only references localized groups on Microsoft Windows operating systems in language versions English, German, French, Spanish, and Japanese, installing Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 fails on operating systems that are not one of these language versions.

Resolution

Perform the installation using the attached transform file.

Example:

For Windows 2000:
msiexec /i "c:\path\MPS.msi " TRANSFORMS="< fix_for_unsupported_langs10_w2k.mst>"

For Windows 2003:
msiexec /i "c:\path\MPS.msi " TRANSFORMS=""

More Information

Citrix Presentation Server is supported on the following operating system languages: English, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

Note: Citrix supports the English version of Presentation Server on the Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
