Symptoms

Ctxcdmd is not starting for MetaFrame Presentation Server for UNIX 4.0 on AIX.

When you run #ctxsrv start all, the daemon ctxcdmd does not start. The following error message is received:

“ctxcdmd requires that nfs_use_reserved_ports is set to 1 using the nfso command”

Resolution

AIX by default does not use a secure port when talking to an NFS server; however, ctxcdmd does with a MetaFrame Presentation Server for UNIX 4.0.

Run the command:

#nfso –o nfs_use_reserved_ports=1

Verify this change has been made:

#nfso –a | grep reserved
nfs_use_reserved_ports = 1

Now run #/opt/CTXSmf/sbin/ctxsrv start all. You should no longer receive an error message. Verify that ctxcdmd has started run #ps –ef | grep ctxcdmd.
