Products: Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003, Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003

Symptoms

When using Word 2003 on a WYSE Thin Client (Winterm 3125) with Windows CE. NET 4.0 and the WinCE client 6.2, 7.23, or 8.33 you may experience very slow performance.

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) works fine. Previous versions of Word work fine. Other Office applications show work fine.

The issue occurs whether connecting directly to the server desktop then launching Word 2003 or launching a published Word 2003.

Resolution

Contact WYSE about having the client side module.ini file edited with the following setting:

[Thinwire3.0]
TwRedundantImageItems=400

More Information

The value of the parameter is the maximum number of rectangular regions of the screen that the client will track, to detect that the application is drawing the same thing that is already visible there. When such an area is found, the client discards the drawing command, as it would have no visible effect. If an application frequently redraws the same image into some areas of the screen, ignoring the useless commands can make the client run much faster.

Note: You must upgrade to the 8.33 client or later. This setting will not work in the 7.23 client.
