Symptom:
Entire error listed below, the resolution values listed in the error may change depending on the client settings.
"The following requested video mode was not available : 1600 x 1200 x 8BBP.
The video mode has been set to the following mode 1280 x 1024 x 8BPP.

From the Section, Features Included in Feature Release 1, page 11, in the Service Pack 2/Feature Release 1 for MetaFrame 1.8 Installation Guide:
Greater ICA session size - Version 6.0 of the ICA Client supports a maximum session size of 4524 by 3393 pixels. Without the Feature Release license, the maximum size is 1280 by 1024. See Thinwire 2 Configuration below for a list of different possible session size and color depth combinations.
Greater ICA session color depth - Version 6.0 of the ICA Client supports high color (16 bit) and true color (24 bit) color depths for ICA sessions. Without the Feature Release license, the maximum color depth is 256 colors. See Thinwire 2 Configuration below for a list of different possible session size and color depth combinations.
Resoultion
1.This error appears if an activated Feature Release 1 license is not installed on the MetaFrame 1.8 server.
2. If a Feature Release 1 license is not installed, do not configure the client connection at a color depth greater than 256 or resolution higher than 1280 x 1024.
MetaFrame XP / Presentation Server
1. Open the Citrix Management Console.
2. Right Click the Farm Node and Choose Properties.
3. From ICA Settings Tab > ICA Display Options > check the box to “notify user of session degradation” and change the default of 5625 kilobytes under “maximum memory to use for each session’s graphics” to 2000 kilobytes and save the changes.
4. Using the Citrix ICA Win32 Client, make a custom connection to the server’s desktop at 1600X1200 at True color (24 bit).
5. Observe the above error message.
6. Ensure the client does not connect at a depth and size that exceeds the memory allocated for a session.
