Shadow Options are Unavailable in the ICA Listener

Citrix states in their article: CTX787589

Document ID: CTX787589, Created on: Apr 17, 2002, Updated: Aug 11, 2006

Products: Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003, Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 for Microsoft Windows 2003

Symptoms

The Shadowing Options on the Advanced tab of the listener are unavailable or restricted.

If the shadow options are unavailable, all options were restricted during installation.

If some of the options appear and some do not, the missing options are the ones restricted during installation.

The RDP listener may also be unavailable.

Cause

1. The MetaFrame XP install process does not log the selected shadowing options. The CHFarm process does not allow the shadowing selection to be altered. Recreating the ICA Listener does not resolve this issue. You cannot manipulate the registry to alter the original selection. You can only alter these selections if you reinstall MetaFrame XP. For additional information, see Chapter 3, "Planning for MetaFrame XP Deployment" of the Citrix MetaFrame XP Administrators Guide, Version 1, Feature Release 1.

From Page 75 of the Administrators Guide:

"Shadowing restrictions are permanent. If you disable shadowing, or enable shadowing but disable certain shadowing features, the restrictions cannot be changed at a later time."

2. There is a Windows 2003 Policy enabled.

Resolution

1. Reinstall MetaFrame.

2. Remove the Windows 2003 Policy. Using gpedit.msc under Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Terminal Services > “Sets rules for remote control of Terminal Services user sessions”.

3. Check for the existence of the following registry value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\Shadow

If the value exists, delete it and reboot the server, then the option should become available. If the value returns after the reboot, then there’s still a Group Policy attached
