Printing from a Virtual Desktop to a Mapped Client Printer onVista or 64-bit Endpoint Device Fails When Configured to Print to File
productFamilyKey3 = "xd"; topics3 = "General"; productFamilyKey = productFamilyKey3.replace("/","--") + "/"; topics = topics3.replace("/","--") + "/";
Symptoms
Printing to a mapped client printer from a Virtual Desktop may sometimes fail as shown below:

This may occur if the printer on the endpoint device is configured to interactively prompt for an output file when you print to it (the printer is set to use port “FILE: (Print to File)”). Instead of the file name prompt, you receive the failure popup shown.
If the endpoint device is running 32-bit Windows XP then printing to this type of printer typically works correctly from a Virtual Desktop, however for 64-bit Windows XP or Vista endpoint devices printing fails by default.
Resolution
Use the Presentation Server Console to create a policy that covers the endpoint devices affected and enforces use of the Universal Printer Driver rather than the default native printer driver. This allows printing to such printers to work correctly from endpoint devices running 64-bit Windows XP or Vista.
