Summary

This article explains how to auto-populate the Citrix Provisioning Server database using a target device template.

Background

A target device can be set as a template for newly added target devices. The new target device inherits the properties from the template target device, which allows you to quickly add new devices.

Procedure

To auto-populate the Provisioning Server database with target devices using the client template feature, the administrator must perform the following:

1. Open the Provisioning Server Admin Console.

2. Right-click a target device and select Set target device as template.

3. Adjust the new template to fit the requirements of a new target device.

4. Configure Provisioning Server to auto-add the new template as follows:

In Provisioning Server 4.x

a. Right-click on the Streaming Server and select Properties.

b. On the General tab enable the option Automatically add new target device using the template.

In Provisioning Server 5.x

a. Right click on the Farm and select Properties.

b. On the Options tab select Enable auto-add and choose a site to auto-add new target devices.

c. Right-click on a site and select Properties.

d. On the Options tab select the collection you would like new target devices added to.

e. Right-click the Device Collection and select Properties.

f. On the General tab, select your new template from the list of available target device templates.

Note: Disable the target device that serves as the template to permit all target devices using this template to be added to the database, but not permit the target device to boot. Target devices receive a message requesting that they first contact the administrator before being allowed to boot.

5. Click Apply to save the changes.

Note: The Streaming service must be restarted for the configuration change to take effect.

Prior to booting clients using the Client Template feature, open the Windows Services applet and restart the Provisioning Server Streaming service. Upon boot, clients will be automatically added to the database with the same properties defined for the template target device.
